New CEO Appointed At Telekom Networks Malawi
Malawi’s mobile network operator Telekom Networks Malawi Plc (TNM) has announced that it has appointed Michiel Buitelaar as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Buitelaar, who is currently a board member of Novec and Infinitas, will be taking over from TNM's Chief Technology Officer Eric Valentine.
Valentine had been serving as the acting CEO for the past two years after the former CEO Douglas Stevenson left TNM to join South Africa's Cell C as its Chief Operating Officer.
According to a statement that was issued by the Chairman of the company's board of directors, George Partridge, Buitelaar's appointment will be effective as from 1 April 2019.
Partridge put great emphasis on Buitelaar's experience as an executive board member at leading global media companies Sanoma and Endemol.
He added that most recently, Buitelaar was the Chief Executive Officer at a European AI software service provider, CX Company.
TNM stated that Buitelaar is a graduate of the University of Delft with MSc in applied mathematics and business administration from the London Business School. He has worked for KPN, AT&T, Orange and Smile.
A technology journalist and market analyst Moses Michael Phiri said that since TNM acquired the ISP operations of Burco Electronic Systems Limited a few years ago, its portfolio had changed completely.
He added that Buitelaar would, therefore, fit in just fine because he seemed to have done relatively well in many aspects.
