History Is Made In Nigeria As NBC Launches VoD, Free Tv
Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has launched the much-anticipated video on demand (VoD) platform, PlayVoD, in collaboration with Play Tv and Free Tv.
PlayVoD is a service that allows subscribers access to premium Nollywood Movies through the use of a customised dongle.
Subscribers on both Play Tv and Free Tv will, therefore, have access to any Nollywood films of their preferred choice without using the internet.
The platform pledges to deliver the cinema experience and feelings to subscribers in the comfort of their homes.
The Director-General of the NBC, Mallam Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, said that PlayVoD is a value-added service (VAS) on the Digital Switch Over (DSO), that highlights the reality of the DSO and that will also help regulators decrease piracy in the industry.
The Managing Director of Inview Nigeria Limited, Olumade Adesemowo, expressed delight over the rollout of the platform stating that it would completely change the economics for the entire Nollywood industry.
NBC declared that this service would enable customers to access high-quality digital films on demand without data charges or expensive internet or data charges.
Viewers will be able to choose from an ever-increasing catalogue of movies which are pushed continuously directly to the Set Top Box without incurring data charges. Customers will then select the video they want to watch and pay to view – with the movie available to the viewer for three days after activation.
In order to access the service customers need to purchase a PlayVoD dongle which will include a one-time activation fee and one movie free of charge.
The service will be launched throughout the country and customers will gain access to the service via a free software upgrade that will automatically be sent to their Set Top Box.
The exciting movie platform will be an excellent way for viewers to enjoy an at-home cinema experience at an affordable cost and be confident that they will get premium viewing experience to pirated alternatives.
Content creators will finally get a high quality, secure platform to distribute their content, and Nigerian citizens will enjoy legitimate, excellent quality, entertainment at home – at a fraction of the cost of a pricey pay tv subscription.
