Turner Reports That Its Africa’s Ratings Are Higher Than Ever
According to its business reports, Turner Africa had a very successful end to 2018, with its combined kids multiplex and entertainment channel, TNT, achieving much more reach and rating results than ever before.
In November, Turner Kids celebrated having spent 51 consecutive months in the number one spot among other pay-TV multiplexes in South Africa. At the same time, Cartoon Network was celebrating its highest-ever monthly share and was the number 1 pay-TV Kids channel for kids aged between four and 14 years old.
Cartoon Network is currently the favourite kids’ TV channel in South Africa, taking up the entire top 15 chart of best-performing programmes. The most popular shows are familiar faces such as Ben 10, and new Cartoon Network original shows like Craig of the Creek and Apple and Onion. Warner Bros and Original Cartoon Network productions content totalled to 77% of the most watched content on the channel.
After revitalising itself with a fresh rebranding in September 2018, TNT Africa had a great month in October, with its highest performance ever in ratings (an average of approximately 36 000 viewers).
In November, the company reported that TNT Africa had smashed a new record with 40 700 viewers watching its shows (+13% month on month) and reached its second-highest performance in share (1.14%) since December 2016. TNT ranked number 5, ahead of Studio Universal, for the second consecutive month.
In November 2018, for the first time ever, TNT dominated the Top 50 competitive movies, with seven films making an appearance on the Top 10 list, and the channel also bagged the top three spots that month.
