South Africa: TV Station eNCA Introduces New Programme "Crimewatch"
eNCA will roll out a new weekly programme on crime that will start in November.
It is no secret that South Africa’s crime rate is among the highest globally. The South African Police Minister, Bheki Cele announced that with more than a shocking 50 murders a day, we are almost on the same level as countries that are at war.
eNCA has taken it upon itself as the country’s leading news channel, to have a hand in fighting this war, and that is the reason for the introducing of Crimewatch.
Crimewatch is a weekly show that will be presented by the Vice President of Crime Stoppers International and anti-crime advocate, Yusuf Abramjee who expressed that he is thrilled to have been awarded the opportunity to host a show that is so close to his heart. He added that Crimewatch would most certainly contribute to making neighbourhoods as well as the greater South Africa a safer place for everyone.
The show will consist of verified footage of real crime scenes, interviews with crime experts and some updates on arrests.
Also, Abramjee declared that Crimewatch would make a difference as it would also feature wanted criminals and show missing persons. The show will be an interactive one that allows the viewers to participate and share their views and information.
Crimewatch will also teach people how to stay safe and protected in a crime-infested country.
Mapi Mhlangu, the Editor-in-Chief of eNCA also weighed in and declared that Yusuf Abramjee had established himself over many years as one of South Africa’s greatest crime journalists and had a thorough understanding of the South African criminal justice system.
Mhlangu added that eNCA was confident that Abramjee would use his strengths to intensify the debate over the crime rate in the country; highlight weak points in the system and also give praise and acknowledgement when due to the SAPS in their daily battle on the crime frontlines.
