Nigeria: Intelsat And Vodacom Nigeria Sign New Deal To Boost Broadband Connectivity

Intelsat South Africa, an operator of one of the world's globalised network, has signed an agreement with Vodacom Business Nigeria for the expansion of its enterprise broadband networks and enable new and improved services throughout the West African region.

Part of the multi-year agreement states that Vodacom Business Nigeria will use Intelsat 35e’s satellite services to foster the delivery fast, high-quality and robust broadband connectivity to the oil and gas, banking, and other enterprise sectors across the region.

Managing director, Vodacom Business Nigeria, Lanre Kolade said: "everybody appreciates the power of connectivity, yet it has proved challenging to reach certain parts of the continent."  He sees the deal as a breakthrough because through the integration of Intelsat’s satellite services into Vodafone Business network; they will be able to quickly deploy their broadband network into untapped locations across West Africa and deliver affordable and fast internet access.

Kolade added that following the newly signed agreement with Intelsat, people in the areas that Vodacom serves would gain access to services that will provide real benefits which includes; banking and education, business connectivity, improved quality of services in healthcare and the overall aim of promoting the economic development of these regions.

Kolade was confident that their new association with Intelsat SA would go a long way to improving on Vodacom Business Nigeria’s current satellite reach and impact.

Brian Jakins, Intelsat’s Regional Vice President, Africa Sales during the announcement said: “Intelsat EpicNG will enable businesses to explore new communities and take advantage of opportunities.” He promised that with the improved performance delivered by Intelsat EpicNG, customers of Vodacom Business Nigeria would enjoy an enhanced quality of service as soon as is deployed.
