Vanessa O’Connor Becomes A Director Of European Broadcasters Union.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Europe's public broadcasters organisation has named Ms Vanessa O’Connor as director of member relations and communication.

The former  Eutelsat corporate communications expert was in charge of activities in Eutelsat’s communications for about three decades. She played a vital role that saw the development of the satellite operations. Through her leadership, the Eutelsat brand enjoyed an upgrade from an intergovernmental organisation into a private company. Her presence also helped in the expansion of Eutelsat’s global activities across video, telecommunications and broadband markets.

Before becoming a part of the Eutelsat family in 1988, O’Connor served as the editor-in-chief of Digital TV Europe, which used to be known as called Cable and Satellite Europe.

As the new director of member relations and communication, her responsibility will include but not limited to strengthening the EBU’s relationships with Members, developing a long-term communications strategy for the organisation and public service media.

Director General of the EBU, Noel Curran is positive about Vanessa’s entry into the directorate. He confirms she is going to be a real asset to the management team.

Curran said “ We are a Member-led organisation and there is the need for us to ensure we that we satisfy the needs of all our members whether large or small. We need to communicate better about the range of services we provide. Vanessa will offer better solutions with her a wealth of experience in corporate communications. We are all excited to working with her to improve our engagement with all our stakeholders.”

O’Connor said in an acceptance speech expressed he delight at joining the EBU. She considers this position an opportunity to work for the organisation and its community of members that have set the benchmark for excellence and vision in the media industry. She sees the EBU’s exceptional range of activities as a reflection of their commitment to maintaining public service media that is relevant and at the top of its game.
