South Africa: ICASA Sets Up Major Investigation Into 'Suspicious' Payments By MultiChoice

ICASA, the regulator for South Africa's Broadcast and Communications industry, is said to have launched an investigation into some 'suspicious' payment activities that have been conducted by DStv Multichoice.

Sources report said that following a complaint lodged by the South Africa Democratic Alliance (DA) party, ICASA is now looking into whether South Africa's biggest Pay Tv company made improper payments to both the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and ANN7 to influence government policy on digital switchover in its favour.

The Democratic Alliance's petition had cried foul over the payments and called it scandalous, saying that Multichoice must not be allowed to buy government policies.

DStv has always denied that it has done anything improper.
