Africa's Pay-TV Subscribers To Reach 17.4 Million By 2023

A new report from Digital TV Research has concluded that Sub-Saharan Africa will see a surge in pay-Tv subscribers between now and 2023 - up to 74% increase.

The report also indicated that revenues from pay-Tv for the period would rise by 41% growth up to USD6.6 billion. The report forecasted intense market pressures and projected a scenario whereby subscriber growth rate surpasses revenue growth.

It confirmed that by 2023, Nigeria would emerge as the most prominent market for the Pay-Tv industry, as it is set to go part South Africa from 2021 onwards. Tanzania, Congo, Democratic Republic and Kenya have also been identified as significant markets for Pay-Tv services.

With regards the industry operators, Simon Murray, the principal author of the report sees a continued fight between market players; with Startimes experiencing the biggest growth in market share, followed by DStv and Kwese TV trying to gain considerable traction in the market.
