Ghana To Extend TV License To Content Viewed On Mobile Devices

Consumers of media content on mobile devices are to be liable for TV license fees in Ghana - this is according to Dr Akuffo Annor-Ntow, the Director General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

Ghana has recently been setting up a special TV Licence Court to enforce the laws around TV licences, and now the country state broadcasters would to extended the ambit to include mobile devices and applications.

The reasoning is that it does not matter how or where content is consumed, the fact is that TV licence is designed to support content development, so those consuming on mobile platforms should not be exempt from paying TV license.

In Ghana, the GBC is responsible for collecting the fees which range from GH¢36 to GHc240.
