South Africa: TV Channel For Mixed-Race Community Launches Soon On StarSat

Rebranded ASTV set to launch South Africa’s first coloured TV channel OnseTV on Friday 29 September on the StarSat satellite Pay TV service of the Chinese Startimes Media in South Africa.

Onse TV, a predominantly Afrikaans-speaking broadcast TV channel is dedicated primarily to South Africa’s coloured (mixed-race) community.

According to the promoters, OnseTV will be the first focused TV channel which will provide entertainment and educational content for South Africa’s largest community, and it hopes to capture and reflect on screen, the spirit and drive of the coloured Afrikaans community.

Debbie Wu, acting CEO of StarSat, OnseTV expresses StarTime’s pride to be associated with Onse TV that in her opinion, will celebrate the rich cultural heritage of South African ‘people of colour, and add value and diversity to StarSat’s platform.

OnseTV programme schedule is still unknown neither is it known if there will be a formal launch of the channel as expected in the industry.
