Eutelsat And AfricaXP Collaborate In Multi-Year Capacity Deal

The channel network and content distributor AfricaXP has inked multi-year agreements with Eutelsat Communications for crucial Ku-band capacity on two Eutelsat satellites that are positioned at 16 degrees East as well as 7 degrees East.

AfricaXP said that the capacity would enable the distributor to extend the reach of its “Premium further.Free” Direct-to-Home (DTH) and Free-to-Air (FTA) TV platform.

The platform, which currently broadcasts in West Africa, will utilise Eutelsat’s 7 degrees East to roll out 23 channels across Southern and Eastern Africa after mid-February. In addition to that, AfricaXP plans to launch a 10-channel French language bouquet from Eutelsat’s 16 degrees East position exclusively for the French-speaking African countries.

The CEO of AfricaXP, Craig Kelly, said that these two Eutelsat positions would offer geographic reach in Africa’s key Eastern, Western and Southern markets where the platform serves large audiences.

Eutelsat’s Director of the Sub-Saharan Africa region, Nicolas Baravalle commented on the collaboration saying that this partnership reinforced the strength and desirability of the two orbital hotspots for Africa’s Sub-Saharan region, which were becoming increasingly sought after by various broadcasters.
