South Africa: E.tv's Open News Brand And App Shut Down 9 Months After Rollout
e.tv has announced that it has ended its Open News brand and also shut down the app just nine months after rolling out the TV news channel in November last year on its Openview satellite TV platform in South Africa.
eMedia Investments that also owns the eNCA (DStv 403) TV news channel on MultiChoice's DStv pay-TV service has made the decision to downsize Open News and fold it into its existing eNews operations.
On Monday 5 August Open News was changed to e.tv news as it merged with e.tv's news operations. e.tv's eNews bulletin at 20:00 has also gone through a name-change to e.tv news, and the eNCA reporter Annika Larsen will now take the role of prime time anchor.
e.tv released a statement saying that it is delighted about Open News merging into the new and improved e.tv news. e.tv explained that the decision to refresh Open News came from the channel's desire to be more closely in line with the e.tv brand.
The channel added that it was excited to welcome Annika Larson as its prime time anchor because she is a trusted voice and a well-known face to the e.tv audience.
