Naspers Appoints New CEO For South African Business

Naspers, the largest public company in Africa, thanks to its lucrative investment in China’s Tencent, has announced that it has appointed Phuti Mahanyele-Dabengwa as the CEO of its South African business ahead of an offshore listing of its international assets.

Mahanyele-Dabengwa was previously the executive chair at Sigma Capital, a private majority-black owned investment group.
She will now report directly to the CEO of Naspers Bob van Dijk and will oversee the firm’s primary operations in SA.

Naspers’s existing businesses in SA include Superbalist, Media24, Takealot, Superbalist, Mr D Food, Autotrader SA, OLX and Property24.

Van Dijk said that Phuti is a seasoned leader who has had a strong track record of achievement throughout her career.
He added that her extensive investor and board experience across diverse sectors makes Phuti the perfect match for this critical role at Naspers.

Meanwhile, Naspers has plans to list its international assets in Amsterdam later this year as part of its strategy to reduce a valuation gap.
