StarTimes Secures Four Million More Subscribers, Invests $220m In Nigeria

The Chinese media company, StarTimes, has revealed that it has invested $220m in Nigeria since it rolled out operations in the country in 2010.

David Zhang, the Managing Director of StarTimes, announced this in Abuja at the celebration of 2019 Chinese Film Week.

Zhang said that the pay-TV company had also gained about four million more subscribers through its collaboration with the Nigerian Television Authority.
He noted that StarTimes is actively involved in corporate social responsibility and has recruited more than 1,000 local employees, 97 per cent of whom are Nigerians.

The Managing Director added that currently, each subscribing family could select between 100 pay-TV channels and view two free channels, and community institutions have access to 20 free international and local channels.

Commenting on the Chinese Film Week, Grace Gekpe, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Culture, said that the cooperation between Nigeria and China had been growing stronger over the last 50 years.

Gekpe said that the proposed joint film week that was taking place between Nigeria and China would be hosted in both countries.
