Kenya's Veteran Sports Commentator Mohammed Juma Njuguna Dies

Kenya's veteran sports commentator Mohammed Juma Njuguna passed away on Saturday at the Nairobi Hospital after a long battle with illness.

The legendary broadcaster, who had close to four decades of journalism experience, was working as a content producer at Radio Citizen, a role he had assumed in 2016.

Kenyans and the rest of Africa will remember Juma for his engaging Kiswahili commentary, which also led to him being awarded a Head of State Commendation by the retired President Mwai Kibaki on March 10, 2010, especially during his time at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation and Citizen Radio.

He left KBC and joined the Royal Media Services in 1999 after more than a decade with the national broadcaster.

Fans, colleagues and friends immediately took to social media to pay their heartfelt tributes to the legend of radio broadcasting in Kenya.

The former Harambee Stars coach, Jacob "Ghost" Mulee wrote that Njuguna had a unique way of executing his football commentary. Mulee added that he hoped that the legend's soul would rest in eternal peace.
