Openview Free-To-Air Digital Platform Reports Strong Annual Growth
The group reported a profit of $12.3 million, from a prior loss of $100 million in 2018.
eMedia said that Openview earned an advertising revenue of $8.8 million and spent $17 million on content, which is more than last year’s up from $11.6 million. The media group attributed the increase to the launch of Open News as well as the addition of eReality in November.
The content changes increased the market share on other eChannels from last year’s 2.6% to this year’s 4.6%.
Openview set-top box activations are growing at a steady average of 35,000 per month, eMedia noted.
The group said that the previous financial year saw the introduction of PVR functionality for the Openview box and the new financial year would see the rollout of a few more technical initiatives in Platco.
Looking ahead, eMedia declared that the television market is currently facing various technology and viewership challenges, which will require the group to consistently keep assessing its strategic alternatives.
The group said that its investment in Openview provides it with strategic flexibility and that is part of its plan to address the challenges presented by digital migration transition.
