BBC And Nigeria’s Channels Television Rollout Co-Production

Nigeria’s Channels Television and the BBC launched a new current affairs programme titled Gist Nigeria on Channels TV on the 17th of April.

The studio-based show that airs at 9 pm focuses on the stories behind the news, with unique storytelling and audience interaction through @GistNigeriaTV and its broadcast studio in Lagos.

Gist Nigeria was created by Channels Television and the BBC in Nigeria and will be a weekly half-hour programme for audiences in Nigeria, and on partner channels in Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The show will feature studio discussions, analysis and hard-hitting interviews around issues that are significant to Nigerians and the rest of West Africa. The programme will also feature stories that are covered by the BBC‘s African services.

Broadcast from the new Channels Television studios in Lagos, Gist Nigeria will be produced to the same high standards of production and journalism that global audiences expect from the BBC and Channels TV.

News coverage on Gist Nigeria will be tailored to bring a fresh, new perspective to a much younger audience.

Channels Television‘s Assistant General Manager of Operations, Kingsley Uranta said that Channels Television looks forward to its viewers enjoying the new show as it is anchored on truth, fairness, balance and integrity.

BBC’s Commissioning Editor, Africa, Nisha Kapur said that the partnership between Nigeria’s leading TV channel and BBC goes far beyond news coverage. She said that it would tap into conversations that are going on in the country and also track successful Nigerians who are living abroad.

The exciting new co-production will broadcast live on Nigeria’s Channels Television and can also be viewed on Channels24 in the UK through Sky and Freesat.
