Kenyan Film Supa Modo Now Showing On Showmax
The movie is about Jo, a nine-year-old girl who is terminally ill and obsessed with Jackie Chan movies. As she spends the rest of her short life living in a rural village, her only comfort is her dream of becoming a superhero.
Jo’s rebellious teenage sister Mwix, overprotective mother Kathryn and the rest of the village of Maweni get involved in trying to help her fulfil her dream.
Since its release, Supa Modo has won more than 50 international awards, including a Children’s Jury Special Mention in Berlin in 2018. In South Africa, it won the Artistic Bravery award at the Durban International Film Festival and the Best New Director award at the Cape Town Film Festival.
Supa Modo is produced by the German director, Tom Twyker.
Twyker is known for directing critically acclaimed films like Perfume and Run Lola Run, as well as TV series like Sense8 and Babylon Berlin and Sense8. He also founded One Fine Day Films intending to give African filmmakers the opportunity to write and produce their own stories.
Since it was founded some years ago, One Fine Day Films, in collaboration with DW Akademie, has trained over 1000 filmmakers from approximately 21 African countries.
Together with its Nairobi-based partner Ginger Ink, the filming company has created six award-winning feature films, including Soul Boy, Kati Kati and Nairobi Half Life.
