'East Africa’s Got Talent’ Season 1 To Launch Soon In Africa
The show has fittingly been dubbed ‘East Africa Got Talent’, and will seek to discover and recognise talent throughout East Africa.
The inaugural season of East Africa’s Got Talent will be filmed in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
The show’s lead sponsor, Safaricom released a statement saying that audiences should brace themselves for the famous ‘Got Talent’ reality TV show’s arrival in East Africa. Safaricom added that it is proud to be sponsoring this popular talent show and is thrilled to be working together with the successful ‘Got Talent’ franchise on the East African version of the series.
Created in 2006 and owned by Simon Cowell's SYCOtv production company, the franchise has been featured in more than 60 countries globally, with the most popular being Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent.
The “Got Talent” format has had more than 900 million global viewers since it began airing and has aired in roughly 194 markets worldwide.
Auditions for the show will begin in Kenya in May, with the pre-auditions in Nairobi on the 11th and 12th of May 2019, followed by auditions in Mombasa. The auditions will then move on to Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. East Africa’s Got Talent is due to start airing in August this year.
The season will consist of 10 episodes, with the semifinals and grand finalé recorded live on location in Kenya. The favourite Ugandan comedian Anne Kansiime has recently been announced as the show’s host.
Qualifying participants from Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania will travel to Kenya for the Live filming of the final episodes. The winner will take home $50,000 (KES 5,000,000).
