MTN South Africa Rolls Out Live Indoor 5G Network

MTN South Africa has rolled out a live 5G indoor solution at South Africa’s Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Centre.

The launch marks the first time that MTN has installed a trial 5G network as an indoor business service, and the telco stated that commercial-grade 5G network devices and equipment were used in achieving this deployment.

MTN said that the joint effort with Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Centre would allow for more in-depth evaluation of the benefits of 5G connectivity for corporate subscribers.

The mobile giant added that the deployment would also create a foundation for more tests of advanced 5G use cases.

The newly launched 5G indoor solution consists of a dedicated 5G network that operates in 100MHz of 28GHz licensed spectrum and offers download speeds of over 630Mbps.

Kyalami attendees and employees have been given access to a 5G router that provides a fibre-like 5G solution for computers and mobile devices via Wi-Fi connectivity.
Additionally, once 5G capabilities are available for smartphones in South Africa, they will also be able to connect to the 5G indoor solution.

MTN South Africa said that the deployment of this live 5G network at Kyalami is yet another step towards fast-tracking the development of 5G in the South African market.
