Showmax And Safaricom Ink Home Fibre Partnership

Safaricom has joined forces with Showmax to provide its home fibre customers with one month unlimited complimentary access to the video streaming service.

According to the mobile operator, all home customers will receive a link to the service when they renew their subscription through the M-Pesa mobile payment platform between 24 March and 15 May 2019.

The link will automatically facilitate connectivity with a maximum of five devices and also enable streaming from two devices simultaneously.

Safaricom claims that its home fibre service now reaches more than 200,000 households across Kenya including Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Thika, Nyeri, Nanyuki, Kisumu, Naivasha and Kericho.

Sylvia Mulinge, the Chief Customer Officer at Safaricom, said that Safaricom is excited to partner with Showmax to deliver a whole world of entertainment and fun to its customers.

ITWeb reported that Safaricom wants to meet growing data needs due to the rapid growth of its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and its enterprise fibre networks. The telco had also been seeing a year-on-year doubling of data usage on its network.

Safaricom’s CTO, Thibaud Rerolle said that Safaricom aims to invest long term into the capacity of its network. He added that as people increase their usage of digital products in their lifestyle, they start to need higher speeds and improved latencies.
