BBC Studios Africa Commissions ‘First Dates SA’ To Be Broadcast On DStv’s BBC Lifestyle

Another localised reality dating show is under works for South Africa. BBC Studios Africa has commissioned First Dates South Africa to be aired on BBC Lifestyle (DStv channel 174).
The channel is currently showing First Dates Australia, which will be followed by the British version.

Rapid Blue has been named as the company that will be producing the upcoming reality show.

First Dates SA is joining the flurry of current dating reality shows on South African TV stretching from Finding the One and The Bachelor South Africa on M-Net to Mzansi Magic’s Date My Family, SABC3’s The Longest Date and One Night with my Ex on 1Magic.

As from 25 March, South Africans over 18 will have the opportunity to enter for First Dates SA.

The General Manager and Vice President of BBC Studios in Africa, Joel Churcher said that he is a huge First Dates fan, so he is thrilled that BBC Studios would be collaborating with Rapid Blue to bring the show to South Africa.

Ed Worster, Rapid Blue's Executive Producer of First Dates South Africa, said that the production company loves the originality of the First Dates format and that Rapid Blue hoped that the contenders would find true love on the show.

Andrew Zein, the Senior Vice President for Creative, Format Development and Sales at Warner Bros. International Television Production (WBITP) said that Warner Bros is thrilled to see the show travel to South Africa for what promises to be an excellent local adaptation.
