Safaricom Names Rose Ogega As Newly Appointed Board Member

Safaricom has revealed that Rose Ogega has been appointed as the newest member of its Board, following a meeting that the Board of Directors held on the 12th February 2019.

Ogega was appointed to serve as a non-executive independent director as of 12 February 2019.

The Chairman of Safaricom, Nicholas Ng'ang'a said that Ms Ogega brought with her a wealth of experience that spans over 25 years managing and advising both complex, large and emerging start-up companies.
He added that her versatility and previous boardroom experience would undoubtedly add much value to the Safaricom Board while helping to elevate the organisation to the next level of success.

Ogega is currently the Managing Director of an executive coaching company that focuses on leadership development by means of mentoring and coaching, Bloom Consultancy.

In October 2018 Safaricom celebrated its 18th year of operation, and at the time ITWeb Africa reported that market rivals were urging the regulator to address the company's dominance and bring some sort of balance to the market.

According to a quarterly report by the Communication Authority (CA) for April to June 2018, Safaricom had approximately 29.7 million mobile subscribers (representing about 65.4% market share) and 23.9 million mobile money users (representing almost 80.7% market share), as well as an estimated 69.5% of the mobile data space.
