Eutelsat Collaborates With Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation And Association Of Ethiopian Broadcasters For Video Capacity On Satellite

Eutelsat Communications has signed separate multi-year contracts with the Association of Ethiopian Broadcasters (AEB) and the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) and for video capacity on its EUTELSAT 8 West B satellite.

Reinforcing EUTELSAT 8 West B satellite’s coverage of Ethiopia, both media organisations will receive nationwide coverage for their free-to-air DTH platforms, amounting to 30 channels.

Eutelsat’s 7/8° West orbital position was introduced to Ethiopia in 2012, and these new agreements will allow it to now broadcast the majority of Ethiopia’s channels.

Eutelsat’s Chief Commercial and Development Director, Michel Azibert said that Eutelsat is proud to be working with Ethiopia’s two leading broadcasters in enriching the FTA experience for audiences across Ethiopia.
He added that these two deals would also highlight the strength of Eutelsat’s 7/8° West orbital position.

EBC’s Chief Technology Officer, Messay Hurissa noted that EBC is delighted to be working with an industry frontrunner such as Eutelsat as part of the media group’s expansion into the untapped broadcasting space within the country and beyond. Hurissa said that this partnership would allow EBC’s viewers to benefit from a much-improved performance with high-quality broadcasting.

The CEO of AEB, Anman Fissehazion declared that satellite technology plays a crucial role in reaching TV households throughout Ethiopia.
The CEO added that this collaboration was a significant step forward for AEB and said that he believed that this contract with Eutelsat would lead AEB to countless more successes when it came to better serving its viewers.
