Vodafone And Facebook To Roll Out Express Wifi In Ghana
The service gives Ghanaian citizens living in distant areas that have a shortage of fiber optic cables access to carrier-grade Wi-Fi.
Available in areas like Jamestown, Nima, Pig Farm, Kanda and Abossey Okine, the package aims to bridge the gap between Ghanaians and the internet finally.
Yolanda Cuba, the CEO of Vodafone Ghana, stated that Vodafone Ghana was effectively delivering a solution to the communities where it could not deploy fiber.
Cuba added that Vodafone Ghana would provide this connectivity at the cheapest rate in Ghana.
On the other hand, the Deputy Minister for Communications, Vincent Sowah Odotei praised both companies for their initiative and spoke about how Facebook and Vodafone’s work was perfectly aligned with the local government’s efforts to connect more people to the internet.
Speaking at the launch, the Regional Head of Africa – Express Wi-Fi by Facebook, Uche Ofodile declared that Express Wi-Fi aimed to minimise the barriers to connectivity such as high data costs and limited infrastructure, offering more people, such as small business entrepreneurs and developers, the much-needed opportunity to connect to the internet and conduct their businesses.
