MTN Zambia And Kirusa Rollout Roaming Service App
According to a joint statement by the companies, by using the service subscribers will benefit from a significant reduction in the cost of receiving and making calls whilst outside Zambia, and the option to use their MTN Zambia number from anywhere in the world, even where the operator doesn’t have roaming partners.
The app changes regular phone calls into Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls, allowing customers to make or receive such calls within the app.
Subscribers are also offered the chance to purchase virtual numbers for the UK, US, Canada and France for US$1 per month. The companies have noted that additional countries will follow shortly.
The statement declared that these numbers can be used alongside a user’s existing mobile number(s) and can be activated instantly with no interaction with an operator required. A maximum of ten numbers can be linked to one person or business - with the numbers able to be utilised on any device. This cancels the need to carry additional phones to use multiple phone numbers.
MTN Zambia and Kirusa assert that ReachMe is different from OTT apps like WhatsApp because it does not require both the caller and recipient to have the app in order to connect.
MTN Zambia claimed to be the very first operator in Africa to use Kirusa's InstaVoice ReachMe.
Seun Soladoye, the Acting Chief Marketing Officer at MTN Zambia, said that ReachMe is a refreshing innovation that solves a long-standing issue for the frequent flyer customers.
The founder and CEO of Kirusa, Inderpal Singh Mumick said he is delighted that MTN Zambia believes in the incredible potential of voice-over-data solutions, in the context of a world that is rapidly getting connected over cloud.
