Africa Launches Its First Short-Format Sitcom
The show is produced by the KMP Media Group in Johannesburg and was written by Cilla Lowen, a screenwriter who has a fantastic penchant for the comedy genre.
The story-line for The Bellos unfolds in 26 five minute episodes. In an interview with Balancing Act Africa, Lowen said that her anthropology background helped her to create stories that are uniquely African, but that will still be loved by international audiences as well.
The sitcom features one stand-alone story in each episode and is suitable for all AV platforms. It is also an excellent opportunity for both advertisers and sponsors.
KMP Productions believes that sitcoms offer the greatest return on investment to sponsors as they are turning out to be the most popular conversation topic all around the world.
Viewers are generally drawn to 2-minute long comedy and prank videos, and although there's a rapid growth in TV and video platforms, there are not nearly enough local sitcoms.
Currently, Africa does not have any short-format African sitcoms that resonate with the spirit of the continent, 'The Bellos' now provides this option.
