Disney Africa To Launch Mickey The "True Original" Campaign In SA
The 18 November 2018 will symbolises 90 years since Mickey appeared in Steamboat Willie on November 1928. There will be a series of global festivities happening this year in celebration of this anniversary, and South Africa will also partake in this honouring of Mickey Mouse.
The campaign will roll out enchanting content and events that cover Mickey’s footprint on the past, present and future. The local celebrations will begin this month up until Mickey’s 90th anniversary on 18 November 2018 and beyond.
Ms. Christine Service, Senior Vice President and Country Manager for the Walt Disney Company of Africa, said that Mickey Mouse is the True Original who reminds us all of the benefits of laughter, optimism and hope, regardless of our age. Service said that Mickey Mouse had bound generations together more than any other animated character that was ever created and that with the ability to emotionally connect with generations globally and his universal appeal, no other animated character has stolen the hearts of his worldwide fan base the way Mickey Mouse has. Service is thrilled to be involved in sharing these local festivities.
The pop-culture sensation that is Mickey Mouse was born upon the release of his first feature film on 18 November 1928, at the Colony Theatre in New York City. The name of this film was Steamboat Willie.
Steamboat Willie was one of the first ever sound cartoons and launched Mickey Mouse’s journey to worldwide stardom.
Since then, Mickey Mouse has appeared in over 130 productions that were primarily short films but also occasionally in feature-length films. The Mickey Mouse film, Lend a Paw, won an Academy
Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1942 and Mickey Mouse became the first cartoon character to be awareded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1978.
Mickey Mouse also appears in other media such as video games as well merchandising and is the most popular meetable character in the Disney parks
Until now, he has starred in over 100 cartoons and in present times can be seen on Disney Junior (DStv, Channel 309) in Mickey and the Rodster RacesMickey Mouse cartoon series and on Disney Channel (DStv, Channel 303) in the Mickey Mouse cartoon series.
