South Africa: MultiChoice Implores ICASA To Soft-Pedal With Pay-TV Regulation

The CEO of Multichoice South Africa, Mr Calvo Mawela has again alerted that DStv, as a satellite pay-TV service, was running on 'borrowed'.
He said that over-regulating the pay-TV marketplace would hand business to international behemoths like Netflix and Amazon at the direct expense of South African workers.

ICASA, The South African industry regulator recently launched it exploratory discussion document concerning its review of pay TV services in 2017, where it seeks to address the supposed problem of "MultiChoice's market supremacy" in South Africa.

It is because of this that MultiChoice is imploring ICASA not to over-regulate the pay-TV market but instead to liberalise the marketplace and make sure that all online service providers abide by the very same guidelines as local players.
