Nigeria: Mobile Telecom Subscribers To Enjoy Data Roll-Over From June 2018

Following constant complaints from subscribers,  The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)  has given a directive to mobile network operators in the country to start data rollover from the 26th of June 2018.

Before now, any subscriber's unfinished or unused data subscription automatically becomes useless at a pre-determined expiry date.

According to the NCC “The mobile network providers have been informed and have also been given ample time to prepare their networks. Failure to implement the order will attract N5 Million fine on the first of failure on each SIM card and N500 thousand on each day that follows the first default date. These strict penalties are to ensure that the consumers’ rights and interests are protected as they should."

The NCC told the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) that the Commission has also given the operators until mid-July, 2018 to commence payment of N165bn interconnect debt. Interconnect debt occurs when an operator fails to settle the cost of termination of service rendered to it by another operator in the sector.
