South Africa: SABC Reviews Options For Editorial Code And Content Policy

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is assiduously working to revamp and realign its editorial code and content policy. To this end, it is rigorously looking at the submissions received stemming from its call to the public and civil societies with regards possible options.

One of the submissions that came through is a call to establish the role of the "Public Editor" that will ensure that its programming framework stays in line with its constitutional mandate ("instead of straying away from it"). The call for a "Public Editor" has been lead by the civil rights campaign - Right2Know.

Right2Know also called for independent editorial and content quality control at SABC more so to ensure the practitioners and journalists are given the editorial freedom to provide South African with top quality content that is deserved.
