"South Africa Should Complete Digital Migration By End of 2017" - Communications Minister
The minister made this declaration after a major stakeholder meeting of the South Africa Digital Migration Advisory Committee attended by key industry players such as the South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), Multichoice, StarSat as well as Cell C, MTN, Vodacom, Liquid Telecom, Telkom. The Universal Service and Access Agency (USAASA) was also present.
The Digital Migration Advisory Committee had lamented that the digital migration process in South Africa had been 'unnecessarily slow', and that ways should be looked into to complete the process in order to allow South Africans reap the benefits of terrestrial digital broadcasting service.
The communications minister re-iterated that all hands are on deck to ensure a fully migrated South Africa by the end of 2017. She confirmed that her department is presently rolling out digital TV services across the Free State region of the country.
