Netflix Hits 100+ Million Subs - Many Coming From Africa

The second quarter financials from Netflix - the video on demand (VOD) Titan - has revealed that it has reached the significant 100 million subscribers (actual declared number is 104 Million subs).

The Netflix report indicated that its customer base grew by more than 5 million alone in the last quarter; and that over 50 per cent of the current 104 million customers are from the 'international market' (i.e. outside the US market where Netflix is based).

The influx of subscribers from the international market (with Africa contributing substantially as well) meant that the revenue to Netflix also got a boost, increasing by 57 per cent from last year.

Netflix said that the continued growth is welcomed as it will help it drive forward the strategy of investing in the localised content that its customers want.
