StarSat Squares Up To Multichoice - Aims For 1Million Subscribers

Africa's Pay TV market is set for another dramatic competitive shakeup, going by the renewed ambition and drive from the pay TV service provider StarSat.

According to Mr John Yan, the CEO of StarSat, he wants the company to acquire 1 million subscribers within the next 2-3 years and set itself up to challenge the market dominance in Africa - currently held by Multichoice.

StarSat (previously TopTV) is embarking on an intensive marketing and business development campaign to encourage customers to switch services. The company believes that with its offering of 'attractive' and 'value-for-money' lineup of channels, it hopes to gain a foothold and establish itself as a key industry player.

According to some reports, StarSat currently holds a total of 400,000 active decoders in play.
