South Africa: Former COO To Take Legal Action Against SABC For Wrongful Dismissal

Mr Hlaudi Motsoeneng, the former Chief Operating Officer of the South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has stated his intention to take the corporation to court over his dismissed.

In a briefing, lawyers for Mr Motsoeneng said he is 'aggrieved' by the decision to sack him, and that he will be challenging that decision via appropriate legal channels.

Last Monday, the SABC interim board dismissed Motsoeneng following an internal disciplinary process that "found him guilty of gross misconduct that brought the SABC into disrepute".

The suggestion from the SABC management was that Mr Motsoeneng did not respect his working agreement. And as far as they (the SABC) are concerned, the agreement (and its provisions) was now void and null.
