Reports: Hundreds Of Industry Jobs To Go At Wananchi Group

Sources close to Wananchi Group are reporting that the company is about to lay-off hundreds of staff. The company is currently undergoing major restructuring aimed at helping it better compete with smarter and more focused companies.

Alongside the retrenchment exercise, Wananch is also in the process of merging its DTH Pay-TV and residential broadband services into a single unit.

Analysts believe that Zuku's overall business model is faltering as its voice, data and video (the so called 'triple-play') services have come under sustained attack and market share erosion. The company is buffeted by the likes of Liquid Telecom and Telkom Kenya (on the data side) and Netflix, Kwese and Showmax (on the video side).
