Market Stranglehold By Multichoice And DStv Must Be Addressed - ANC

South African ruling political party, the ANC, is suggesting the break-up of Multichoice and DStv's market dominance of the South Africa's Pay-TV market.

In a policy discussion document titled "Towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution", the ANC noted that "the likelihood for any new player to effectively enter the subscription TV market and compete against the dominant players was grim.

Identifying the two Naspers companies, Multichoice and DStv as the dominant players in the market, the document submitted that the industry regulator must review the license conditions for these two companies as well as the entire South African pay-TV landscape and provide a more level playing field across the board.
