Nigeria: National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Withdraws 54 Broadcasting Licenses

Nigeria's broadcasting regulator the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has cancelled the licenses of 54 broadcast stations for refusing to pay their fees withing the 60-day range.

According to reports from the organisation, these includes both private and public broadcasting stations.

In a statement made during a press conference in Abuja, Nigeria, NBC's Director General, Mallam Ishaq Modibbo Kawu said the affected stations were owing about 5 billion Nigerian Naira (USD 16Million) to the commission. Broadcasting licences of outfits who failed to go on air within the mandatory two-year period were also cancelled.
