South Africa: ICASA Tells SABC - Editorial Policy Amendments Not Valid

ICASA (South Africa's communications industry regulator) has approved recommendations made by the Complaints and Compliance Committee (CCC) against the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) on the issue of editorial policy amendment.

According to the CCC, the SABC have not complied with section 6(6) of the South Africa Broadcasting Act of 1999 requiring it to conduct publicly before implementing any editorial policy amendment.

ICASA, having considered CCC's recommendations on the matter had therefore issued an order to the SABC stating that the 2016 amendments to its editorial policies were, in fact, invalid. The 2004 SABC editorial policies remained in effect as a result.
