BBC Worldwide Grows Sub-Sahara African Content Sales By 800 Hours

BBC Worldwide has during their annual BBC Worldwide Showcase event claimed it had sold over 800 hours of television programming across different genres to a variety of leading broadcasters and media across sub-Saharan Africa.

Digitising Africa understands from the BBC press office that BBC Worldwide has led sales deals in the territory with Showmax purchasing 250 hours of programming, with Pay TV operator StarTimes buying over 200 hours.

VP and GM of BBC Worldwide, Joel Churcher, noted the happenings as "an incredibly exciting time for the television industry in Africa" adding how drama stood out as a favourite across the content and how this popularity would be capitalised to expand reach in 2017.

BBC Worldwide has experienced excellent growth across Africa with South Africa broadcasting all five BBC channel brands since 2015 on Multichoice platform, DSTV.
